There was a time in my life I wasn’t showing up fully—not as the man I wanted to be, and definitely not as the person I aspired to be.
I was out of alignment.
And I used soft lies with myself to avoid the truth, to not see it until I almost lost someone deeply important to me.
Walking down the wrong path is kind of like that.
It doesn’t happen all at once.
It starts small.
The skipped workout.
The meal you said you’d clean up but didn’t.
The white lie to avoid a hard conversation.
The quiet moments where you know you’re not being who you said you’d be but you brush it off.
And then slowly…
You drift further from the version of yourself you know you are.
The one with integrity. Fire. Discipline. Compassion. Clarity.
And when it comes to your health, fitness, mental health, and your body…
It’s the exact same thing.
The “I’ll start Monday.”
The “I’m too tired” that becomes a week of too tired.
The “it’s too early” or “it’s too late.”
The “just this once” drive-thru meal.
And then one day, you realize, you’ve lost your way.
The way your body feels doesn’t lie.
The way you think and move and show up it all reveals the truth.
Here’s what I’ve learned, as a coach and as a client who has lots of coaching:
Coaching only works when both people show up fully.
100% coach × 100% client = 100% results, experience, betterment, synergy.
But 100% coach × 50% client? That’s 50%.
Or 50% Coach × 100% Client ? Still 50%.
You get back what you bring.
It’s not magic.
It’s not a shortcut. It’s a partnership.
And working out isn’t a one time occurrence.
It’s a lifestyle devoted to bettering yourself of today and the future you.
The easy thing to do when life doesn’t go our way is to quit.
To make excuse after excuse.
To lie to ourselves about how “busy” we are or how “we just don’t have time” or “this isn’t the right time.”
The hard thing is to take personal responsibility.
To say, “I’ve let myself slide.”
I don’t like who I’ve allowed myself to become and I am committed to changing that.
To look in the mirror and choose to recommit.
Because intention is great, you can have all the intention in the world.
At the end of the day, Intention is a wish.
And commitment is “it’s done.” It has a system.
Most of the time without us realizing or being aware of it.
We are all committed to things within our life and whether we realize it or not, have systems for how we stay committed.
You can intend to get or stay healthy.
You can want to be a better partner, parent, leader.
But unless you commit to those things, be those things t’s just an idea.
So where in your life are you only half in?
Where are you hoping for change but not fully showing up for it?
If you’re off-track, don’t wait to hit rock bottom.
You don’t need a breakdown to create a breakthrough.
Decide now. Recommit now.
Your future self is waiting for you to go all in.
